About Apistogramma commbrae

A beautiful South American dwarf cichlid from the slow, tannin-stained waters of the Paraguay River basin. Males display a striking dark lateral stripe, iridescent blue-green scaling, and elegantly extended dorsal fin rays at maturity. Among the less commonly available Apistogramma species, it is prized for its bold patterning and fascinating harem breeding behavior.

Care Notes

Thrives in soft, acidic water — add Indian almond leaves or peat filtration to mimic blackwater conditions. Prefers live or frozen micro-foods (daphnia, baby brine shrimp, micro worms) but adapts to quality small pellets. Keep one male with 2–3 females in a heavily planted tank with multiple small caves. Peaceful with small tetras, rasboras, and corydoras as tankmates.
