About Hypostomus isbrueckii
Hypostomus isbrueckii is a large, armored pleco species named in honor of the renowned ichthyologist Isaäc Isbrücker. Like other Hypostomus species, it feeds primarily on algae and biofilm, rasping surfaces with its specialized oral disc. A robust and impressive species that commands attention in any large aquarium.
Care Notes
This species grows large and requires a spacious tank with excellent filtration — adult fish produce significant waste. Provide plenty of driftwood and flat rocks for grazing and shelter. Diet should include algae wafers, sinking pellets, and fresh vegetables (zucchini, cucumber, blanched spinach). While it will consume algae, supplement regularly as it cannot thrive on algae alone. Generally peaceful with non-pleco species; territorial toward other plecos. Provide strong water flow to mimic its natural fast-water habitat.
