About L134 Leopard Frog Pleco
The L134 Leopard Frog Pleco (Peckoltia compta) is one of the most sought-after dwarf pleco species in the hobby. Named for its bold yellow-and-black spotted pattern that recalls a leopard frog, this compact species from the Rio Tapajós is prized for its striking appearance and manageable adult size. L-number designation refers to the location number used before the species was formally described.
Care Notes
Requires well-oxygenated water with moderate to strong flow, mimicking the rocky, fast-moving waters of the Tapajós. Provide smooth, flat rocks and driftwood for territories and hiding spots. The patterning fades somewhat with age; bright lighting tends to cause premature fading — diffused or low lighting is preferred. Diet: algae wafers, sinking pellets, fresh vegetables (zucchini, cucumber), and occasional meaty foods (bloodworms). Males are territorial among themselves; multiple males require a large tank with line-of-sight breaks. Excellent community fish with non-pleco species.
