This is the albino genetic variant of Tropheops macrophthalmus, a robust Mbuna cichlid from Lake Malawi. The albino form displays a stunning white-to-cream body with striking pink-red eyes. Tropheops macrophthalmus ("big-eye Tropheops") is a member of the Mbuna group — the rock-dwelling cichlids of Malawi known for their bold colors, active personalities, and intense territorial behavior.
Care Notes
Classic Mbuna care applies: hard, alkaline water, heavy rockwork, and active filtration. A protein-rich diet should be avoided — Mbuna are adapted to graze on algae (aufwuchs) and can develop Malawi bloat from excessive animal protein. Feed primarily spirulina-based flake/pellet food and supplement with herbivore wafers. Keep in a ratio of at least 3 females per male to dilute aggression. Maternal mouthbrooder — separate brooding females to protect fry. Never combine with Peacock cichlids in small tanks due to hybridization risk.
