Black & White Banded California Kingsnake (Lampropeltis californiae) — CBB
Captive bred and born. The classic California kingsnake pattern — crisp black and white bands running the length of the body. It's the look most people picture when they think of this species, and it holds up beautifully as the animal grows.
Why a Cal king
Lampropeltis californiae is one of the best first snakes there is. They're hardy, they feed reliably, they stay a manageable 3–4 feet, and they live 15–20 years. A 20–30 gallon enclosure suits an adult, and they eat appropriately sized frozen-thawed mice their whole life.
One rule with kingsnakes: house them singly. The name comes from the fact that they eat other snakes, and that instinct doesn't switch off in captivity.
Legal note
Restricted only in Hawaii, which bans nearly all snakes as pets under its positive-list system. Restrictions vary by state, and sometimes by city or county, and change periodically — please verify current local law before ordering.
